Language technology advances – what about Human resources?
The advances in the language technology along the years have been gradually increasing, with technological developments occurring almost everyday. With all this, what about the translators? Will they still be necessary? The answer is yes, translators will still be needed; be it an App or MT (Machine Translation), someone will still needed to “feed” the information, supervise the translation process, review or fix errors that may happen, and help to adapt it and give a “human touch” to the translation.
“When you think how the translation industry was 30 years ago, with the idea of MT as distant then as the idea of robot-interpreters is now, translators have adapted to the new faster more technological environment and, I predict, in the coming year, the human element in the language will continue to evolve ensuring that it remains an essential link in the translation process,” writes Ivana Đurić of Eurotranslate for EUATC, as its Serbian member.
