Do you know how many languages there are and how many there were?

There are about 7,000 languages used around the globe today, from an estimated peak of 15-20,000. That is still a lot to translate from/into!
Some experts believe that half of the remaining languages will be lost in the end of this century. Although spoken languages will continue to decline, the cultural heritage will be preserved through documentation, music, folklore, cultural activities and etc. but to do so we must help preserve them, for instance with donations to museums and organizations that work to maintain the cultural history.
